WhatsApp will not share user data with Facebook anymore

News

It's the order of France's ultra-strict watchdog CNIL to stop sharing user data with parent company Facebook. WhatsApp has one month to act in accordance with the order, according to public notice posted to the French website.

France's ultra-strict watchdog CNIL has taken this step after WhatsApp has added that it shares data with Facebook to its terms of services last year. WhatsApp said that it shares user data with Facebook to develop targeted advertising, security measures, and to gather business intelligence.

CNIL said that WhatsApp never told its users that it was collecting data for business intelligence and moreover there is no way to opt out of this. Only the way to opt out this is to stop using WhatsApp and uninstall the app. That violates “the fundamental freedoms of users”.
