Despite the growing smartphone market, smartphones sales have declined in the global market for the first time. According to American research firm Gartner, smartphone sales have been down for the first time in the fourth quarter of 2017.

The research firm has said that only in the fourth quarter of 2017 in the top-5 companies, Hawa and Shomei are the only companies where growth has been recorded.

Global smartphones sold 408 million units in the fourth quarter of 2017, which is about 5.6 percent less than the fourth quarter of 2016. The most important thing is that since 2004, Gartner is tracking global smartphone sales and since then the smartphone sales have declined in the global market for the first time ever since.

Gartner's research director Anshul Gupta has said, "In 2017 there are two main reasons for declining sales. The first reason is that people are buying better quality phones instead of buying more cheap smartphones.

According to Gartner, the second reason for the decline in smartphone sales is that users are taking quality models as replacement smartphones and are keeping it for longer periods, which is also increasing the smartphone's replacement cycles. The demand for smartphones with 4G connectivity and better camera features is still quite high. During the replacement, some advantages have also been reported due to this.

Despite the global slowdown, South Korean vendor Samsung has been ranked No. 1 in the fourth quarter of 2017 with more than 18% market share. Samsung has also declined 3.6 percent in the fourth quarter of 2017, but despite this, the company remains number one. Apple is the number after Samsung in the Global Smartphone Vendor.

Gartner's report also said that due to Samsung's next new flagships, the smartphone cell will increase. Mobile World Congress is starting on February 25, and during this time Samsung will launch its flagship smartphone Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus.
